What this tool does
This tool handles the everyday jobs people usually upload their videos and recordings for: changing a format so a file plays where it needs to, making a large video small enough to send, cutting a clip, keeping only the sound, and turning a short moment into a GIF. Pick a tool at the top, add a file, and download the result. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Convert
Turn video into MP4, WebM or MOV, or keep just the audio as MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG. When the video inside a file is already in a format the new container accepts, it is copied across without re-encoding, which is fast and loses no quality. Otherwise it is re-encoded at high quality.
Compress a video
Choose how small the file should be. Smallest file caps the picture at 720p and suits chat apps and email; Balanced caps it at 1080p for sharing; High quality keeps the resolution and only lowers the bitrate. The result is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which plays on practically every phone, computer and website. The old and new sizes are shown side by side.
Trim
Play the file, press Now at the moment the clip should start, then again where it should end, or type the times directly. The part you keep is saved in the same format as the original. Trimming works for both video and audio, so it is just as handy for ringtones and voice notes.
Extract audio
Pull the soundtrack out of a video and save it as MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG. MP3 is the most widely supported, M4A is a little smaller at the same quality, WAV is uncompressed for editing, and OGG suits web and game projects.
Video to GIF
Choose where the GIF starts, how long it lasts, how wide it is and how smooth it should be. Each frame is captured from the video and given its own colour palette, so the GIF stays as true to the original as the format allows.
Privacy
Your files never leave this device. There is no upload step and no server that receives media: your browser reads the file, does the work with its own built-in video and audio engine, and the download comes straight from its memory. Once a file is open, the tool keeps working with the network switched off.
Questions
Which formats can it open?
MP4, M4V, MOV, WebM and MKV video, and MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC audio. Most videos from phones, cameras and screen recorders work.
Is there a size limit?
There is no set limit, but the finished file is held in memory before you download it, so a phone handles shorter videos than a desktop computer. Files of several gigabytes are usually fine on a computer.
Which browsers work?
Current Chrome, Edge and Safari handle every tool here. Firefox handles most of them. The work uses the video engine built into your browser, which is also why it is fast.
Why is my compressed video larger than the original?
Some videos are already compressed very efficiently. If the result is not smaller, the tool says so, and the best choice is to keep your original.
